Here are some major changes we've made in recent years:
The start of will be from Miller Street, next to North Sydney Oval, echoing the historic start line of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Marathon. Plus, we have removed the tight sections around Darling Harbour and Pyrmont, introducing longer, straighter sections, and reducing the number of U-turns.
A start line that celebrates Sydney 2000
We have removed a tight uphill section and number of turns in Pyrmont, further improving the experience during the first 10km of the marathon course.
An easier run during the early stages
You can breathe easy, the number of out and backs the previous route took through Centennial Park have been reduced by four kilometres in previous years.
One beautiful loop of Centennial Park
To find the additional distance lost in Pyrmont and Moore Park Road, we have extended Anzac Pde, a long straight, wide section of road to allow runners to get into their rhythm.
Extension of Anzac Parade
We have listened. In 2025, there will be no uphill battle up Moore Park Road at 35km. Instead, runners will turn left off Driver Avenue onto Moore Park Rd, allowing for a fast last 6km push to the finish line.

We’ve also upgraded the facilities at the start area at North Sydney Oval and St Leonards Park to include more toilets (for those pre-race nerves), a longer and wider start chute, and better designed starting waves.
