Access and Inclusion

TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS

A world-class event that embraces the spirit of fun and inclusivity for all.

The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS is a fun and inclusive event for participants of all abilities and has implemented a formal policy regarding Access and Inclusion (A&I) for all participants, volunteers, staff, sponsors, and spectators to ensure everyone can enjoy the event.

Each event course is accessible to participants who are registered and wearing the bib for the corresponding course. There are no age restrictions for the TCS Sydney Mini Marathon or TCS Sydney Marathon 10km events. There is a minimum age of 18 for the TCS Sydney Marathon event.

Considerations have also been made for spectators, public, and volunteers.

Details of accessible travel to the TCS Sydney Marathon Running Show, event day start lines, and travel from the finish lines will be available in July 2025.

  • Participants and their supporters can access the start via accessible public transport, or via an accessible drop off location. The start venue includes ramps as required and accessible toilets for all participants and their supporters.

More details will be shared in July 2025.

  • Entry Information

Any participants wishing to participate in an everyday wheelchair or with a pram are asked to enter the final start group for each event distance. Everyday wheelchairs are not permitted in any other start group. Please note, race wheelchairs are not permitted unless the athlete has qualified for the Elite Wheelchair Marathon Athlete division. Race wheelchairs cannot be used in any other start group.

The TCS Sydney Marathon accepts companion cards for participants who require the assistance of a companion carer. A second entry ticket may be issued at no extra cost to the Companion Card holder.

    On Course Accessibility

The courses have been carefully designed to accommodate all participants, including ramps as required, and accessible toilets every 5km for the 10km and Marathon course distances. All medical tents facilities are accessible for all participants and include accessible toilets.

  • Each event course is accessible to participants who are registered and wearing the bib for the corresponding course (e.g. TCS Sydney Marathon, TCS Sydney Marathon 10km).

Accessible Toilets are available at each drink station on the TCS Sydney Marathon, and TCS Sydney Marathon 10km courses. Please refer to the course maps for the specific location. There are no drink stations on course for the TCS Sydney Mini Marathon, however accessible toilets are available at both the start and finish areas.

  • Information on getting to the start venue will be available in July with a dedicated Accessibility guide.

  • The two finish locations include several accessibility features for an enjoyable experience for all participants and their supporters.

Participants enter the recovery village via ramped access to collect their baggage, seek medical assistance if required and reunite with their supporters. Where required, event volunteers will be in place to assist participants on any grassed areas.

Participants can leave the finish arena via accessible public transport, or via an accessible pick-up location with no pre-arrangements required.  Signage will be installed prior to event day.

Access maps will be available in July 2025.

  • In addition to the start, finish and course accessibility plans, the Sydney Marathon has considered spectator accessibility within the event plans which will include:

    • An Accessible Viewing Platform at the Sydney Opera House for spectators to cheer home participants.

    • “Quiet spaces” within the recovery village to provide a calm, sensory-friendly environment where individuals can retreat when they feel overwhelmed or overstimulated by the event. These spaces are intended to off a respite from sensory overload and provide a safe, comfortable space for relaxation and self-regulation.

    • Accessible toilets at the finish lines and within the recovery village.

    • Maps clearly indicating accessible pathways and toilets in the recovery village.

    • Accessible medical tents within the recovery village.

    • Additional support for wheelchair users from the finish line into the recovery village.

  • The TCS Sydney Marathon has created a dedicated email address, accessandinclusion@pont3.com which will be used for any persons seeking further information; providing feedback; or raising a complaint relating to access and inclusion.

  • The TCS Sydney Marathon has implemented a formal policy regarding pregnancy and postpartum situations, allowing registered participants to defer their entry if they are unable to participate due to being pregnant, recently pregnant, or postpartum.

  • The TCS Sydney Marathon partners with Achilles Australia for low vision/blind athletes by connecting them with support runners. The low vision/blind participant will register and pay for their entry. Achilles Australia will contact the TCS Sydney Marathon customer service team to request the number of entries they require for guides which are provided for free.

  • The TCS Sydney Marathon is accessible to any participant wishing to participate in an everyday wheelchair or with a pram in any course distances. All participants using a wheelchair or participating with a pram must select the final start wave. Participant timing is completed via chip timing and there is no disadvantage to starting in the final event wave.

Race wheelchairs are permitted if the athlete has qualified for the Elite Wheelchair Marathon Athlete division. Transportation and Baggage/Day Chair transfers are managed by Athlete Services Team for Elite Wheelchair participants.

The TCS Sydney Marathon accepts companion cards for participants who require the assistance of a companion carer. A second entry ticket may be issued at no extra cost to the Companion Card holder.
