TRAFFIC AND Transport

Sydney motorists are urged to leave their cars at home on TCS Sydney Marathon race day, Sunday 30 August, due to major closures in place and extensive detours.

Summary of major traffic changes:

• Major roads & cycleways will be closed between 2am and 4:30pm in North Sydney, Crows Nest, the Sydney CBD, The Rocks, Millers Point, Barangaroo, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park, Centennial Park, Kensington & Kingsford.

• The Harbour Bridge and Western Distributor will close from 3am to 11am, while major roads from the city to Moore Park will be closed until 4pm including Oxford St and Flinders St. Anzac Pde will be closed from Moore Park to Kingsford from 5am to 2pm (southbound lanes at Moore Park Rd closed until 3:30pm).

• Motorists will only be able to travel east/west across the course via the Cross City Tunnel, which will be toll-free from 5am to 4.30pm on event day; however, long delays are expected. Motorists should avoid non-essential travel. There is no direct access to the CBD via Eastern Distributor exits at Cowper Bay Wharf or Kings Cross throughout the day. Drivers will need to use the Cross City Tunnel via William St.

Key road closures by area:

• North Sydney closures between 2am and 12pm

• Sydney Harbour Bridge, Western Distributor and Cahill Expressway closed 3am to 11am

• Sydney CBD, Circular Quay closures 4am to 12pm (Macquarie St remains closed until 4.30pm)

• Millers Point, King St Wharf, Barangaroo and The Rocks closures between 4am and 11:30am

• Pyrmont closures between 4am and 11am

• Sydney CBD east including Macquarie St & The Domain closures between 4am and 4:30pm

• Sydney CBD, Darlinghurst to Moore Park (Oxford St and Flinders St) closures from 4am to 4pm.

• Moore Park closures from 5am to 3:30pm

• Southeast, Moore Park to Kingsford (Anzac Pde) closures from 5am to 2pm

• Centennial Park closed all day (24 hours)

Detours:

• Harbour Bridge-Anzac Bridge from 3am to 11am: Southbound traffic approaching the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be diverted via the Harbour Tunnel. Citybound traffic on the Anzac Bridge will be diverted via Bathurst St off-ramp - access to the Harbour Tunnel from the Anzac Bridge is via the Cross City Tunnel only (toll-free). No direct access between the Anzac Bridge and Harbour Bridge until 11am - use the Harbour Tunnel or Victoria Rd/Gladesville Bridge. The Macquarie St on and off ramps from the Cahill Expressway remain closed until 4.30pm - use the Sydney Harbour Tunnel for access to the Eastern suburbs and Sydney Airport while the Cahill Expressway is closed.

• City to Moore Park from 4am to 4pm: Major roads will be closed restricting access east/west across the course from the Sydney Opera House, through the city, Darlinghurst down to Moore Park.

  • For drivers needing to travel east/west across the course during these hours, the only available route is via the Cross City Tunnel (toll-free 5am-4.30pm) or via Gardeners Rd, Bunnerong Rd and Maroubra Rd in the Southeast. From 1.30pm Cleveland St/Anzac Parade partially reopens for motorists to cross the course.

  • The Eastern Distributor Bondi exit to Moore Park Rd remains open, while the Randwick Anzac Parade entry and exit will be closed from 5am to 2pm. Long delays are expected so motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, and if you do need to drive, allow for plenty of extra travel time on the roads.
