In Volunteer Support, you will work closely with the Volunteer Manager. You will be required to ensure all volunteers have checked in and received a t-shirt. You will help to organise volunteers into their functional areas and hand them over to their Team Leader/Supervisor. You will help the Volunteer Manager deploy volunteers and redeploy in areas, as required. Throughout your shift, you will check on the volunteers, take them extra water/snacks and solve problems while roaming the venue.
You must be available to attend a mandatory evening training/briefing session prior to the event to gain further information about your roles and responsibilities within Volunteer Support.
You will liaise directly with participants who are collecting their bibs. Each runner will arrive at the bib collection desk with a confirmation email that contains a QR code linked to their registration. For marathon participants, you will need to check their ID to confirm their name and date of birth match their registration, and that the participant is over the age of 18. Then you will assign them a bib according to their allocated start group and give them their finisher shirt and envelope.
After the marathon, some participants prefer to have personal items ready for collection from the finish line area. You will assist in the drop-off area for participant baggage at expo. Participants will arrive with clothing and belongings that they will place into an event-provided bag. The participant will then hand you their bib number baggage sticker (provided at bib collection), and you will place it on the bag with their contact number. Baggage is then placed into the correct tubs for event day.
We will also need assistance at the end of the day to assist with packing the bags for transfer to the finish.
You will be the welcoming face of the TCS Sydney Marathon Running Show, directing participants to key areas; participant race bib collection, event information, expo exhibits, baggage drop-off area, etc.
Waste Warriors play a vital role in helping the TCS Sydney Marathon reduce its environmental footprint. Positioned at key waste stations throughout the expo and at the sustainability booth, you'll be front and centre of our sustainability efforts.
You will help participants sort waste into the right streams, maximising recycling while reducing landfill waste, all while answering questions about best sustainability practices on-site.
Don't worry - each shift begins with a full briefing, and you’ll have the support of our Sustainability Manager throughout the day. No prior experience required - just a passion for the planet!
