Record fundraising milestone for Sydney’s debut year as an Abbott World Marathon Major

(Sydney, 28 August 2025) The iconic Sydney Opera House set the stage today as Australia's top marathoners stood alongside some of the world’s greatest marathoners, including Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) and Sifan Hassan (NED), who came together ahead of the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS - where organisers announced a record-breaking $8 million raised for charity in 2025.

It was announced that the Seventh Abbott Marathon Major in its debut year has exceeded its original $5 million target and set a new benchmark for participant fundraising in Australian sporting events.

This year’s total is already more than five times the $1.46 million raised in 2024, underlining the extraordinary growth in community engagement and generosity. The achievement adds to a total of more than $36.2 million raised for charity since the event’s inception in 2001.

The TCS Sydney Marathon is supported by the NSW Government via its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW. The event is owned by Athletics Australia and managed by Pont3.
