Building habits and achieving more, together

Marathon training isn't built in a single long run.

It's built through the small choices we make every day, the habits that quietly add up over weeks and months. That's exactly what the Build phase of the TCS Sydney Marathon training journey is all about.

But the best part? Progress is even more powerful when we do it together.

That's what we're seeing through Planet PB with Pledge for the Planet, where hundreds of runners are already taking action to protect the places they play while training for race day.

One runner leading the way is Harvey Ng from Meadowbank Run Club, our Phase 1 Pledgend of the Month. Harvey topped the leaderboard by taking action on simple pledges like composting food scraps, making snacks without plastic wrap, and training with reusable bottles. He tracked his progress, shared his journey, and earned himself a spot on the 2026 TCS Sydney Marathon start line!

Phase 2 has been all about travel, and the community has embraced the challenge in some pretty inspiring ways. Juliette is currently walking 800km over five weeks, choosing to travel under her own steam wherever possible. Imi has swapped her usual commute for a walk to work, turning everyday travel into training time, while Priscila has ditched the car and now walks to run club, reducing emissions while squeezing in a few extra steps before every session.

These actions might not feel huge on their own, but when a community gets behind them, that's where things get interesting. One runner changes a habit, then another, then a whole run club. Momentum builds, ripple effects happen, and positive change starts spreading far beyond the individual.

And honestly, real change isn't about being perfect. It's about building habits that fit into your everyday life and sticking with them.

Today marks the start of Phase 3: Community, and if there's one thing we've learnt so far, it's that saving the planet is a team sport.

We're encouraging runners to take action together through activities like plogging, combining a run with picking up litter, and hosting kit swaps to give running gear a second life. Clubs like Coogee Run Club are already leading the way and showing what's possible, creating opportunities for runners to connect, reduce waste and look after the places they love to run.

We're not even halfway through Planet PB, and already hundreds of runners are proving that training for a marathon and protecting the places we play can go hand in hand.

Ready to build your Planet PB? Jump into Phase 3, take action with your community, and we'll see you on the leaderboard.
