PlantPB: What does running connect you to?

Every time we head out the door, whether it’s for 5km or 42.2km, we’re connecting to something beyond the run itself. The rhythm of our breath. The ground beneath our feet. The streets, parks, coastlines and trails that shape each session.

Running has a way of bringing us back to what’s around us. It reminds us how lucky we are to have these places to move through, reset in, and feel part of something bigger.

And during marathon training, that connection only deepens.

As many of us prepare for the TCS Sydney Marathon, we’re not just building endurance. We’re connecting with our bodies, our minds, our routines, and the communities we train alongside. It’s a 20-week journey that asks a lot from us, and gives a lot back.

That’s where connection comes in.

Running connects us to the places we rely on, and the responsibility to protect them.

What would it look like if we applied that training mindset to the environment around us?

Small actions can become part of the rhythm. Picking up litter on an easy run. Choosing to walk, run or ride instead of drive. Bringing others along for the journey. These choices don’t just add up, they help protect the places we run, race and connect.

That’s where Planet PB comes in.

A 20-week sustainability training plan, designed to sit alongside your marathon prep. With five phases, simple weekly actions and live impact leaderboards, it turns everyday habits into something bigger, a shared effort to protect the places we play.

The future of running isn’t just about performance. It’s about connection, to nature, to community, and to the role we play in protecting it.

No perfection required. Just progress, together.
