When doubt creeps in, trust your training

Race-day confidence starts long before the start line, says Head Coach Georgia Weir. Stop focusing on the runs you missed and remember the work you've done.

As race day approaches, it's normal for doubt to creep in. You might start questioning whether you've done enough or focusing on the sessions you missed. But marathon training isn't built on one run; it's built on months of consistently showing up.

Trust in yourself

Every early morning, every long run and every time you laced up when you didn't feel like it has prepared you for this moment. Trust the training you've done, not the doubt you're feeling. You've earned your place on that start line.

Accept the challenges

Every marathon has its highs and lows, so expect that there will be tough moments. Before race day, spend a few minutes visualising yourself staying calm, running strong and working through those challenges.

Try a mantra

A simple mantra you can say to yourself can also help you stay present. Try one of my favourites:

“Every run teaches you something – one step at a time.”

or

“If it was easy, everyone would do it.”

Remember, you don't have to feel confident every step of the way; you just have to keep moving forward.
